Babur was the founder of the Mughal Empire in India. He was a Chaghatai Turkic-Mongol prince who was born in 1483 in the city of Andijan, in present-day Uzbekistan. He was a descendant of Timur on his father's side, and of Genghis Khan on his mother's side.

Babur became the ruler of Fergana Valley in Central Asia at the young age of 12 after his father's death, and went on to conquer Samarkand and then Kabul. From there, he turned his attention to India, and in 1526, he defeated the Sultan of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi, in the Battle of Panipat, establishing the Mughal Empire in India.

Babur was a gifted military strategist and administrator, and his reign marked the beginning of a new era in India. He is also known for his memoir, the Baburnama, which provides a detailed account of his life and times, and is considered one of the great works of literature from the Islamic world. Babur died in 1530, and was succeeded by his son Humayun.
